Saturday Solace: The Word of God

“In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself” (John 1:1). Everything that God intended for life, hope, and a future is summed up in Jesus Christ, the Living Word of God. He bridges the gap between testaments, walks of life, and between us and God.
We must be in Christ in order for His words to be effective in our lives. Jesus said in John 15:7, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” That is because abiding in Him makes us privy to the things He desires, so that they become our desires as well.
“For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
It has only been when I have intentionally sought to understand God through His written Word that its words have become life-changing to me. I see my story written on the page, as the Holy Spirit reveals truth and mystery to me. Whatever I might be going through, hoping for, or praying about at the time is given perspective—Jesus’ perfect perspective. And when I grab hold of that perspective, His words continue to abide in me, giving me strength and purpose to carry out those things which He has called me to.
“Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God's will in thought, purpose, and action)” (2 Timothy 3:16). His Word is all that to me—it encompasses everything—thought, will, and action. It is life to me!
Thank you, Jesus, for being the Word made flesh, and for giving your life so that my life might rest upon it.

“He is dressed in a robe dyed by dipping in blood, and the title by which He is called is The Word of God” (Revelation 19:13).
