Rome

"All roads lead to Rome" and "Rome wasn't built in a day"
There are many other idioms I'm sure we like to say
In the heart of ancient Rome, one can visit the Colosseum
Or take in the culture and history in many a Roman museum
Modern gladiator shows can give you a glimpse of the past;
But the chariot rides nowadays do not go quite as fast
You can eat authentic pizza or savory Rosetta bread,
Take a tour of the Vatican, or go to a circus instead
You can see Apollo and Daphne, a marble Baroque masterpiece;
Many parts of religion and government, which were influenced by Greece
The Roman gods and their history are evidenced all around
People shouting and speaking Italian gives Rome a vivacious sound
It's not a quiet city, by any measuring stick,
But there's always the Protestant Cemetery, if noise becomes too thick
The Wolf with Romulus and Remus in front of City Hall;
A marble Julius Ceasar, as Rome's supreme guide, stands tall
You can even see Cleopatra (but Mark Antony's not by her side);
In the Louvre, an impressive Spartacus (who also disrupted the tide)
The history is rich and worth weeks of observation—
And be sure to try lots of cuisine if you go on a Roman vacation:
Bucatini, saltimbocca, cacio e pepe, to name a few
Just remember, "when in Rome, do as the Romans do."
