Whimzy

Whimzy’s the life of a poet. So, why is it spelled with a “z”?

Because writers make up spellings—and also words, you see.

No, life’s not all euphoric, nor always pleasurably wild,

But the drive to write will tap you on the shoulder like a child.

The “z” represents the zest we infuse into our craft

And also the zing of the edit, as we update every draft.

It’s fun and free and magical, but also can be hard,

So the “z” in “whimzy” is the zigzag of being a bard.

Sometimes you’re most inspired—a “z” for “in the zone;”

At other times you’re stuck inside a restless brain alone.

When a poem writes itself, that is the most whimzical fest,

Which makes way for the zenith, that encapsulates it best—

That final word or phrase that gives a zap of soulful blee.

The zeal for writing poetry is whimzical to me.
