Story

We all have one, but we don't always like it,
But it's ours–the gruesome, good, lovely, and bad.
It's all a part of who we are today
And colors all the years that we have had.
We carry it, we shed it, we embrace it—
Sweet mem'ries, honors, ventures, proud achievements.
We have laughter, anger, hardships, and abundance,
And times of sorrow, illness, and bereavements.
Some chapters with our grandchildren, we share,
While others may show empathy or grace.

Though the audience for hidden tales is small,
The truth of history remains ours to face.
We can let the past define us or destroy us;
Conversely, we can learn and change and grow.
But never will our story be for nothing,
For all things work for good through God, we know.
He promises to carry all our burdens.
He will redeem past sin, heartache, and choice—
And give us better vision for the future.
He'll teach us how to listen to His voice.

And through the years, as we make joyful mem'ries,
He'll heal the parts where others caused great hurt—
Or even just the pain of circumstances.
His child, He's promised, He will not desert.
There is a future and a hope before us,
As long as there is breath, upon this earth.
Our story will continue on to Glory,
Just as God first ordained our very birth.

And so, we must embrace the time we're given
And share the story of our lives anew—
With characters God has divinely chosen.
We'll not wish for a life we never knew.
For once upon a time, there was a newborn,
Who grew and loved and blessed, and struggled too.
When all is said and done, there'll be such beauty,
Woven through this story—written about you
